Community Foundation Grant to Help Families Displaced by Fitchburg Beekman Street Fire

FITCHBURG, MA: September 24, 2019 - On Sunday evening, residents of Fitchburg experienced a devastating loss from a 3-alarm fire at the Bartley Nolan Condominiums on 7 Beekham Street. Over 60 individuals have been displaced from their homes.

The Community Foundation of North Central Massachusetts held an emergency meeting of its Grants Committee, awarded $30,000 to the Salvation Army of Fitchburg to provide immediate financial relief to the victims of the Beekman Street fire.

The Foundation’s Grants Committee, chaired by Will Aubuchon, of Aubuchon Hardware, tapped the Community Foundation’s Critical Needs Fund to provide short-term support to the 31 families affected by the fire of September 22.

“We wanted to be sure that the families affected by this tragic event had access to the essentials while they work with area agencies to put together longer-term support,” said Aubuchon. “I want to thank my colleagues on the Community Foundation Board for their rapid and thoughtful response to this critical need in our region,” he said.

The Community Foundation grant is intended to allow the Salvation Army to provide families of 7 Beekman Street up to $500 per person to allow them to address the immediate needs created by the unexpected loss of their homes and possessions from the fire.

Residents of the community who wish to donate to support those impacted, can do so through a fund set up by the United Way of North Central Massachusetts titled the Fitchburg Fire Relief Fund. Donations can be made by texting FFRF to 50155. 100% of donations will be directed to those affected by the Beekman street fire.
